WASHINGTON, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The White House predicted on Tuesday that due to growing sectarian violence and attacks on U.S. troops, Iraq's situation in coming weeks will be "very difficult."

"Let's make no mistake about it, it's likely to be a very difficult summer," said White House spokesman Tony Snow.

"Terrorists are going to do their very best to try to create very spectacular acts of terror," he said, noting "We have been gratified that they have been intercepted on a number of occasions, but unfortunately they have also succeeded on a number of occasions."

On the U.S. strategy of deploying tens of thousands of additional troops in Iraq, Snow said "We hope that members of the House and Senate will give the Baghdad security plan an opportunity to unfold."

The U.S. Congress has been trying to force U.S. President George W. Bush and his administration to change course in Iraq, but so far the White House remain standing firm.

Currently, there are 153,600 US soldiers stationed in Iraq.
